MOUNT DESERT — Nancy Wadsworth Larson of Northeast Harbor died peacefully on Sept. 14, 2009 at her home in New York City. Mrs. Wadsworth Larson would have celebrated her 86th birthday on Sept. 25. She was the daughter of Eliot and Nancy Wadsworth of Washington, D.C. and Northeast Harbor, and lived most of her life in New York City and Northeast Harbor.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia Scull of Northeast Harbor; four children, Nancy Larson Schoyer of Denver, Colo., Daniel L. Larson, Jr. of Ipswich, Mass., Eliot Wadsworth Larson of Philadelphia, Penn., and Eleanor Belmont Larson of Greenwich, Conn.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Larson graduated from St. Timothy’s School in 1942. She was a dedicated alumna who founded the New York City branch of St. Timothy’s and was both class agent and class secretary until her death. She was a member of the Metropolitan Opera Guild, the Colony Club of New York, and the Cranberry Club. She was devoted to the community of Northeast Harbor for 80 years. Working with the Union Church, she funded the creation of Wadsworth Park in memory of her parents. Since 1953 she was a member of the corporation of the Northeast Harbor Library.
Mrs. Larson was a talented tennis player and sailor in her youth. She loved to needlepoint. She will be remembered for her generosity, her ironic sense of humor and her "blunt integrity."
A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s-by-the-Sea in Northeast Harbor on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to St. Timothy’s School, 8400 Greenspring Ave., Stevenson MD 21153.
